India’s batting star in the second ODI, Yuvraj Singh, relives the magical win
Cape Town, Jan 18: Yuvraj Singh, the highest run-scorer for India in the second ODI against South Africa and the man who held on to the victory-sealing catch, spoke to the media before the third ODI about the team’s preparations for the World Cup and the memorable win at the Wanderers.
Excerpts from the interview
On the win in the second ODI
It was a great team effort.
On finding his form and his disappointment at getting out
Yeah, it was a tough situation to bat in because we were three down and me and MS [Dhoni] thought that we would just play a few overs till we [would take] the Powerplay. Unfortunately, before that, I got out. [It was] bad thinking, I guess. But [I’m] just happy with the way we played and [how we] never [let] the spirit [go] down and won the game.
On the victory-sealing catch at the Wanderers and the celebrations that followed
It was three runs to go and [the] field was up and I was hoping that Munaf [Patel] would pitch it up and [Wayne] Parnell would go [on] the up. But the [shot] which normally goes [to the] boundary came straight to my hand. Luckily, I was way forward to take it and I didn’t know what to do after that.
On the preparations for the World Cup
Well, definitely, we’ve been preparing keeping in mind the conditions in India. The conditions over here are different but […] if [we] beat [SA] and compete with them, it will give [us] a lot of confidence going into the World Cup. I think we are on the right track for the World Cup.
