WI A v Ind A – 2nd One-day game
Summary

Ind A rout hosts by 108 runs to level series

Mumbai desk, Jun 30: After losing the first one-day game to West Indies A a few days ago, India A bounced back with a strong performance as they routed the hosts by 108 runs at the National Cricket Stadium, St George's, Grenada. India put up another ordinary batting performance which saw them post 184 runs in 50 overs but managed to bowl out West Indies A for just 76 runs to level the three-match series 1-1.

The Indian top-order struggled to find form yet again after captain Cheteshwar Pujara opted to bat first. Barring Rohit Sharma, who top scored with an innings of 39, none of the other top five batsmen were able to manage an individual score of 25. Jalaj Saxena then pushed India’s score close to 200 with an innings of 35 batting at No. 7. Jason Holder finished with figures of 10-2-40-3 as West Indies A restricted their opponents to 184 for seven in 50 overs.

Unlike in the previous game, where the hosts managed to get to the target (190) with a couple of spirited partnerships, there were no such heroics on offer. Ashok Dinda and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets each early on to leave the hosts reeling at 18 for four. Akshay Darekar then ripped through the West Indies A lower order with his left-arm spin (6.1-0-17-4) to scuttle them out for 76. Jalej Saxena also contributed to the hosts’ downfall with figures of 7-0-23-2.

The final one-dayer of the three-match series between the two sides will be played at the same venue on July 1.

Brief scores: India A 184/7 in 50 overs (Rohit Sharma 39, Jalaj Saxena 35, Jason Holder 3/40) beat West Indies A 76/10 in 27.1 overs (Jason Mohammed 26, Akshay Darekar 4/17).

Man-of-the-match: Jalaj Saxena for his all-round performance; 35 runs and bowling figures of 7-0-23-2
