Jason Mohammed & Sunil Narine new faces in the side
Mumbai, Nov 17: West Indies have named a 15-man squad for the ODI leg of their ongoing tour to India. Top-order batsman Jason Mohammed and offspinner Sunil Narine are the two new names in the side.
Both Mohammed and Narine earned selection on the basis of impressive performances in the Regional Super50 competition played in the Caribbean in October. Narine finished that tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 15 scalps from five matches while Mohammed was the leading run-scorer with 227 runs from five innings.
Indian audiences will remember Narine and Mohammed from Trinidad & Tobago’s campaign in Champions League Twenty20 2011. Narine had finished that tournament as the second highest wicket-taker with 10 wickets from six innings just behind Ravi Rampaul (12 wickets from as many innings) who also features in the ODI squad.
Devendra Bishoo and Carlos Brathwaite are the only two players to be dropped from the 15-man squad that beat Bangladesh 2-1 in the ODI series played in October. The other 13 members of the side captained by Darren Sammy, and including the likes of big-hitting T&T all-rounder Kieron Pollard, have been retained.
The first ODI against India will be played at Cuttack on November 29.
The squad: Darren Sammy (c), Adrian Barath, Darren Bravo, Danza Hyatt, Anthony Martin, Jason Mohammed, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Kieran Powell, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons
