New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori says it was the sheer brilliance of Pathan that took the game away
Bengaluru, Dec 7: New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori on Wednesday conceded that it was the brilliance of one man – Yusuf Pathan - which took the game away from the Kiwis after the visitors posted a formidable total of 315 runs.
Vettori praised James Franklin for getting New Zealand past the 300-run mark but admitted that it was not possible to change the momentum when Yusuf Pathan was batting at the centre.
Excerpts:
On the match
Yeah, it was a great game. Over 300 runs by both the teams and a brilliant innings by Yusuf Pathan. I think it was amazing and I think it was the last powerplay which took the game away from us.
On James Franklin’s innings [98 off 69 balls]
I think James [Franklin] played exceptionally well. To play so well at the death and give us a formidable score was a great effort.
On the rain interruption
It should really have favoured us. It breaks the momentum of the batting team and there was a chance for us to regroup.
On the ball getting wet in the outfield
I don’t think that it was that bad as people made it look. It was hard to stop when they had the momentum.
